Mary is a senior on a fixed income. She struggles to make ends meet and often goes without things she needs once money has run out every month. She isn’t sure where her money goes, just that she doesn’t have any.
Mary brought her bank statement to one of our Self-Sufficiency Case Managers and together, they looked over.
Our Case Manager discovered that Mary was being charged a large amount of money for magazine subscriptions that she didn’t want and to which she couldn’t recall subscribing. They called the company and canceled her subscriptions. Next, they noticed that she was being charged a substantial amount for identity theft protection and even an unnecessary insurance policy, so they worked together to cancel these as well.
Once it was said and done, and all of these unnecessary expenses were removed, it was discovered that Mary will be saving $212 a month! This amount of savings will allow her some breathing room in her budget and give her some much needed funds to access adequate food and other needed items.
