Jasmine was introduced to our Family Center program through a friend, who was also a client. “I was going through a really hard time in life and needed help” Jasmine shared. “At just about the same time as I met Jen, our Family Educator from TCCA, my daughter and I had just relocated to a homeless shelter. All of this forced me to evaluate my chaotic life and make big changes to make things better” she said.
“Looking back, I can say this, our Family Educator was the best! She was real and down to earth and that helped me immensely. I appreciated that because not all social workers are like that and I felt more comfortable opening up to her. She is very personable and she held me accountable for my actions. Being personable made me feel like she really cared and actually cared about me and my family and what happened to us.”
Jasmine’s Family Educator worked one-on-one with her and helped her and her family with time management, nutrition, tools to use with her young children, and much more. Jasmine says she can see a difference today, “My oldest came out of his shell and they’re both very independent now.”
“Because Jen kept reminding me that simple things go a long way and I can do anything if I use the resources around me and that I just need to be more confident to use them.”
In time, Jasmine and her children moved out of the shelter and into their first home, which she purchased! And today, Jasmine is happy to report that she has a both a full time AND a part time job and has re-enrolled in school to pursue a Master’s Degree.
“TCCA is really a foundation of what can help you as a single parent – there are resources out there. TCCA gives you the blue prints of what you need in life. I’m more confident in myself today and more sure that I’m a good mom and there isn’t anything that I can’t fix.”
