Ahmad met with TCCA when he saw a flyer for our S.T.A.R.T. program and decided to wanted to enroll.
“I was amazed that there was a program that would cover the cost of the trainings” Ahmad said. He was skeptical at first but when he realized that there were other students enrolled and heard about those who have already completed the program, he felt more confident that this was an option to get ahead and learn a new skill/trade.
“I met with Lisa, a TCCA Case Manager and Job Coach, she oversees the S.T.A.R.T. program. The experience was good, she made you feel comfortable. You could see she cared about the people there because she did state that she understood because she had some ups and downs in life too. So I knew she understood the struggle some people go through.”
“I told my family about the program and that I got enrolled. They were very happy for me and I felt good about myself. This can be a new beginning for me to get a better paying job and a possible career.”
Ahmad has now completed his training and is working in a new job!
“I wasn’t working due to losing my job and Lisa helped me to apply for the position and I got hired! I am still going to look for something in CNC Machining but right now until I save up for car and some emergency money saved, this is perfect for me. It is close to home and I can walk to work. It keeps me busy and I like what I am doing. It can be stressful but I use what I learned in the STEP Academy to deal with my feelings and talk about things if they don’t seem to be going right.”
“I am making progress, I know it is going to take some time to get back on my feet financially and this current job is a start. I want to get into a CNC Machining job and work my way up in a company to where I am making good money and can live comfortably. I have more hope and I feel more positive about myself and things that I can do.”
